Philosophy

The Significant Seven* is a set of guidelines for interacting with others, especially youth.
They describe three perceptions and four skill areas that are critical for growth. As such,
they provide a foundation for our assessments, an outline for the therapeutic process.
Casa Mia Ranch programs ask participants to explore these perceptions and skills
through direct experience.

The Significant Seven consist of:

Perception and attitude
1. “I can do it!” – individual capabilities
2. “I belong and I count!” – purpose and significance
3. “I am in control and make my own choices” – control over the environment

Skills and Abilities
1. Personal skills – looking within: self-evaluation, self control, self-discipline
2. Social skills – relationships and community: listening, communicating, cooperating,
negotiating, sharing, caring
3. Systematic skills – responsibility, adaptability, flexibility
4. Judgment – safe or dangerous, fair or unfair, appropriate or inappropriate

Our intent:

To help people move toward individual and social well-being by addressing attitudes,
perceptions and life skills. We believe the best way to address these is through direct
experience.

We are an educational and therapeutic organization that creates prescriptive
experiences to offer individuals the opportunity to explore new perceptions and
develop skills.

Casa Mia Ranch is committed to:
1. Responsive service to a diverse population
2. Quality and innovation
3. Flexibility and adaptability of program design to reflect client needs
4. A staff that is comprised of diverse skills and backgrounds
